The weekend docket

We did it. We made it through December, and now it’s 2021. Everything’s gonna be all right, I know. As bad as 2020 was, I’m not sorry to see it go. I’m cautiously hopeful for the new year, and hope that I’ll be able to make more money this year. I’m sure at least one of you reading this is also thinking the same. Just know you’re not alone in this. Hopefully our stimulus checks will be enough to make more progress in any debt you readers have. I’m hoping it’ll at least buy me some time to get enough money to pay what’s left of mine down in one shot. Seriously, the sooner these turds are out of my life, the better I’ll like ’em.

This weekend will be even colder, so I’m counting on being able to stay in, work on this blog, and what I was able to get from my day job. There’s a Godzilla marathon on Comet today, and I’ll probably catch the last of it later. Otherwise, I’m hoping I have the chance to go to the record shop at some point. How about you readers? Got any weekend plans? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s swap stories.

Now for some links. Check ’em out, share ’em, and talk about ’em in the comments too.

The car wrap scam has been popping up more often lately. Readers, be on the lookout, and share this with your friends and family. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you get an email or text offering an opportunity like this, and it gives you even the slightest off feeling, honor it, and ignore them. Send their asses to your spam folder, ASAP. While you’re at it, take those phone numbers they used to contact you, post it to 800 Notes so others will know to avoid them. Also, maybe consider sending those lil’ numbers my way, so I can waste their time for you.

OMG, these lettuce wrap sandwiches! I haven’t made these in a long time, so maybe I’ll change that this weekend.

I’d also love to try these collard greens, and maybe whip up some Hoppin’ John sometime soon. Somehow I haven’t had this in a long time, and I’ve got a can of black-eyed peas and some rice knocking around in my cupboard already.

Has anyone else noticed how vintage clothes can sometimes have that musty smell to them, regardless of their condition? This article explains why that smell’s there, and how to fix it. What an interesting hack! I may try this out on something with a musty smell I don’t care about just to test it.

For some positive news, this guy rescued animals from a burning shelter. He saved all the dogs and 10 of the cats when a fire started in the shelter’s kitchen. I hope next year brings him nothing but great things.

Artistic depictions of the lockdown/shelter in place.

The country artists we lost this year, not always due to the pandemic, but it contributed in any case.

In other sad news, today is the 13th anniversary of the murders of Sarah and Amina Said. It took the feds and the local cops a long time, but their killer, and two of his scummy accomplices are off the streets as of last summer. I’ve been following their story for several years, and I hope the judge throws the book at these losers for what they did to those girls.
