A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

It’s Friday, and we all know what that means: weekend time’s upon us once again. It’s the last weekend of the month, and the first weekend of the fall season. I’m planning on going to the farmers’ market, since it’s still on. It’ll run until the farmers run out of stuff, so the organizers are playing it by ear. I also have plans to work on some posts for Vocal, and we can consider it the weekend edition. Hope to see you there when those drop!

Besides, it’ll help me get through my pile of notebooks and journals I’ve had living in my stash for way too long, haha.

Over to you, readers. What are your weekend plans? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started.

To ring in the weekend, I’ve found us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

Mickey Guyton’s album is coming out today, and I hope I get the chance to pick up a copy of it this weekend.

Speaking of new albums, Carrie Newcomer has one out too. I had the chance to see her in concert back in college, and at this point, idk if she’d even recognize me, haha.

At this point, you’ve probably heard the news about what happened to Gabby Petito, and it’s tragic for sure. At the same time, it also underscores the disparities among how law enforcement handles missing persons cases in certain demographics. We’ve talked about the issue of MMIWs here before, and this article talks about how the media coverage of Gabby’s disappearance and murder over other missing persons is a form of overt (or covert) racism and prejudice.

Doesn’t Bondi Beach look like a fun place to travel to? I so wish I was there.

Speaking of travel, the pandemic-related restrictions on travel to Hawaii have turned into a catch-22, and this article talks about how some businesses are struggling due to the travel ban.

A great post about reflecting on the lessons learned in life on your birthday. Stormie, if you ever find this, happy belated birthday!

Great ideas for self-improvement. Totally up my alley, both with me personally and here on the blog.

Could Visme be the new sheriff in town?

I found this article about Waverly Woodson, Jr., a combat medic who played an integral role in saving hundreds of lives in the Battle of Normandy during WWII. Sadly, he hasn’t gotten the Medal of Honor, but there is a bill issued in the 116th Congress petitioning for that to change. We’ll honor him, though. Woody, thank you for your service to our country. May you rest in peace.

New changes to OSHA standards for those working outside during heat waves with high heat indices. Having been outside when the heat index was 115-degrees (Fahrenheit, not Celsius), my heart goes out to those workers, big time.

I loved me some teen magazines in late middle school into high school and early college. CosmoGIRL was one of my favorites, and I loved Atoosa Rubenstein’s editor’s letter. I was wondering what happened to them, and why I haven’t really seen them on the newsstands at the store.

How a guy ended up amassing an epic T-shirt collection.

Speaking of which, I have one myself, not near what this guy has, but I’ve got plans in the works to turn it into a quilt like this.

Last but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last sighting of Kristen Galvan of Spring TX was in January 2020. If you see anyone matching her description, make that call. Let’s get her home to the people who care about her.
