Happy Fri-yay, everyone! That means one thing: weekend time’s upon us once again. Therefore, it’s time for us to talk weekend plans. My weekend plans include going to a local book store in honor of Love Your Bookshop Day 2024, and also the farmer’s market. We’re coming down to the wire in that respect, so I may as well take advantage of it, and the nice weather we’ve been having, while it lasts.
There’s a book store at a place I haven’t been to since before the pandemic, and I’m gonna add that to my list of places to go while I’m there. It opened in the time it’s been between now and then, so I’m not surprised I had no idea it existed until now.
My weekend started a bit earlier since I got the day off from my day job, which I’m not thrilled about. However, it’s where we’re at, so I just gotta make the best of it, and make it count. I can always spend the extra time catching up on some cleaning, meeting step count goals, and knocking stuff off the to-do list I got hanging up on the front door.
I’m typing this up late into the night, listening to some albums, just like old times. The rechargeable batteries I got are still chugging along, but I need to get those in the charger soon.
Anyways, nuff about me. How bout you, readers? What’re your weekend plans? Good, bad, both, neither, I’d still love to hear all about it, so drop it all like it’s hawt, and let’s get this party started!
To ring in the weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.
Everything we like about jalapeno poppers, now in a pizza! I haven’t made pizza in so long, haha.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Stanley Tucci lately for some reason. Maybe seeing his cookware lineup and his books at Williams Sonoma has something to do it, but whatevs. Here’s some overlooked Italian dishes he talks about in this post. I bet it’d be a ball to cook w/ him, like for real. BTW, Stanley, if you ever find this, hi from Iowa!
A link to the National Weather Service’s website, just because, and for something to read.
Ethel Kennedy passed on yesterday at 96 years old. Job well done, Ethel. Rest in peace.
First published in 1987, here’s a look at her home in Virginia and her home in Massachusetts.
How to cook rice, according to this post.
How to use the color wheel for interior design.
The latest updates of the damage from Hurricane Milton, which came along less than a month after Hurricane Helene. Anyone reading who’s from the areas impacted by Milton and Helene, y’all are in my thoughts, and I want you to stay safe.
Last, but never least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 11-year-old Lowin Martinez Reyes Daniel of New Haven, CT was on July 11th, 2024. No other information is listed in the poster, and nothing comes up in a google search, either. I’m not sure why this is, but no matter what, Lowin’s got ppl who are worried sick about him and love him to the moon and back.
Even though it’s a sad truth to talk about, the odds of a child returning home diminish the longer they’re missing. However, it’s important to remember that this is just the general trend, and that there are always outliers. There’s always hope. This is why I’m highlighting a long-term missing child, and this time, let’s talk about Rima Danette Traxler of Longview, WA. The last confirmed sighting of Rima was on May 15th, 1985, when she was walking home from school. The Resource Center states that on her way home from school, she made a pit stop at a neighbor’s house to show off some artwork she did that day. She disappeared two blocks from her house, leading the authorities to believe whoever took her was someone who knew the family. Whoever it was knew her enough to know the family’s code word, a word they agreed on when they taught her not to leave w/ anyone who didn’t know it. [Note: this link contains mention of abuse and assault against children.] This post also mentions an acquaintance of the family, Joseph Kondro, who would be convicted of murdering another girl years later, around the same age as Rima was at the time of her disappearance, and a suspect in another girl’s murder in the early 1980s. Nonetheless, a jury convicted him of Rima’s disappearance and possible murder, but her remains were never found, so she’s likely still alive. Kondro died in prison in 2012, and good fuckin riddance to him. At the time of Rima’s disappearance, she had on a tan plaid skirt, pink shirt, white tights, dark brown clogs, and a rainbow barrette. The NCMEC has an age-progressed photo to show what she may look like at 35. However, this year, she turns 48 years old.
If you have any knowledge as to the whereabouts of Lowin after July 11th, 2024, or of Rima after May 15th, 1985, make that call. Let’s see what we can do to get em home safe to those who love em before the holidays, pronto!
