The Weekend Docket

Happy Fri-yay, everyone! It’s hard to believe we’ve come to the end of another work week, and that can only mean one thing: weekend time’s upon us once again. So it’s time to talk weekend plans. My weekend plans are to go to TJ Maxx and some old stomping grounds to revisit some stuff I saw there last weekend for home decor research. I got the color palette I like in mind, but I wanna do some comparison shopping, though.

I considered going to an event in town, but it’s in a part of town where no bus goes by, and the walk there is dangerous af. Forget biking that way, no matter what the weather. I biked that way once years back, never again. So I’ll chuck that in the fuck-it bucket instead.

Otherwise, since the weather’s gonna be hot, I’ll be going to the pool, but I’ll be taking the bus. Even if it weren’t for the heat, after what happened last weekend on my way there, nope. Bus it is.

I’ll also go to the neighborhood farmer’s market, as always. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the summer, even if I end up not getting anything.

‘Nuff about me. How bout you, readers? What’re your weekend plans? Good, bad, both, or neither, I’d still love to hear all about it, so drop it like it’s hawt, and let’s get this party started!

To ring in the weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

I’d love to try this recipe for okra. I haven’t had okra in years, but I’m sure someone at the farmer’s market will have it at some point in the season on offer for sale, haha.

This recipe for spaghetti nerano looks like it’d be fun to make, too!

This isn’t a sponsored link, but I’m also considering this rug from Tumble, in addition to what I saw at TJ Maxx last weekend.

Here’s why tennis players wear white. I feel like the black shorts under it for us girls and vag-havers shoulda been a thing from the get-go, cuz certain times of the month make white fuckin disastrous.

Heads-up, the following 3 links contain mention of missing and murdered indigenous women, or MMIW. The term is now missing and murdered indigenous, MMI, to be more widely encompassing, as this happens to other genders in indigenous communities. If this is something you’re not in the headspace to hear about, I encourage you not to click on any of these links. In other news, Kathleen Jo Henry and Veronica Abouchuk’s murderer is gonna be spending the next 200 years in jail. Serves that son of a bytch right. He targeted those who were experiencing homelessness, and there’s a possible 3rd victim too. Now we need to go after the dozens of other abusive horse dicks who prey on indigenous communities and have gotten away w/ it for far too long.

Case in point? A serial killer targeting women going through homelessness in Canada’s been sentenced to life in prison. Rest in peace and power, Kathleen Jo Henry, Veronica Abouchuk, Marcedes Myran, Morgan Harris, Rebecca Contois, and Mashkode-Bizhiki-ikwe/Buffalo Woman.

To me, the word ‘family’ means both family of origin, and chosen family. I haven’t always been clear in making that distinction, and to this day, I still beat myself up over it in my head. This post has some great ideas on how to build a chosen family, and I wanna try it sometime.

Another take on ways to build a chosen family. I like these ideas, too.

A list of business leaders who wake up insanely early.

Vera Bradley’s rebranding. I knew there was some shyt amiss when I went into the Vera Bradley location at the mall, and this explains it. I’m sure I’ll feel differently about the rebrand later on, though.

Last but never least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 13-year-old Xavier Jayceon White Whirlwind of Rapid City, SD was on May 25th, 2024. No other info is included in the listing for him, and I wonder why this is.

Even though it’s a sad trend to have to think about, the longer a child remains missing, the less likely it is they’ll be returning home. However, it’s important to remember that there’s always hope, and always outliers among that trend. This is why I’m devoting a link in the roundup to a long-term missing. This week, I’ll be talking about Christopher Milton Dansby of New York, NY. The last confirmed sighting of Christopher was on May 18th, 1989. He and his mom were at the Martin Luther King Jr Towers Park, located on 113th and Lenox Avenue, when he disappeared. The Charley Project listing for him says that at the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a blue jacket, a floral print shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers. His family called him Choo-Choo. He also has a birthmark in the shape of a figure-8 on his right leg, even though the NCMEC has it listed as being on his neck, and other sources say it’s on his back. There is an age-progressed photo of Christopher on the NCMEC site showing what he may look like at 26 years old.

Another child went missing around this same time, albeit a few months later. The last confirmed sighting of Shane Anthony Walker was on August 10th, 1989. Shane and Christopher were around the same age, and both boys also lived in the same apartment complex. The Charley Project says that he was last seen wearing a blue and white shirt, light blue pants, and white LA Gear sneakers. Shane’s page on the website says that some older kids approached his mom and asked if they could play w/ him, and an older man approached his mom. It was in a very similar way to what Christopher’s mom described, but the older kids and the older man have apparently been ruled out as suspects. The NCMEC has an age-progressed photo to show what Shane may look like at 28 years old. There has to be a connection between these two boys somewhere, there just has to be.

If anyone out there knows anything about the whereabouts of Xavier after May 25th, 2024, Christopher after May 18th, 1989, or Shane after August 10th, 1989, make that call. Let’s see what we can do to get these kids home safe to those who love em, and get their loved ones the answers they deserve, pronto.
