The Weekend Docket

A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

Holy crap, it’s Friday once again. This week’s gone by quickly, and yet so slow at the same time. I’ve got some relatives from out of town visiting. They won’t be able to stay long, since they’re passing through to a reunion for their branch of the family in the northern part of our state. It’ll be nice to see them, since the last time they saw me was before I lost the weight. I’ll report back if their reaction’s what I’m betting it’ll be.

Otherwise, my weekend plans involve the farmers’ market, and possibly a trip to a shop on the south side of town if I’m feeling up to it. Wrong time of the month for the pool and the sprayground right now, so that’s off the list for a few days. It is what it is. I’ll be putting the pedal to the metal with my day job like I’ve been doing these past couple weeks, now that there seems to be an uptick in available assignments for me to take on.

Over to you, readers. What are your weekend plans? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started.

To ring in the weekend, I’ve found us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

Scammers are going after people’s unemployment checks in a new phishing scheme. If you’re looking for work, and you get a text or other type of message like this, do nothing about it. Ignore it. No legit government or state agency will contact you by text, and if you have responded to it or entered information into the scammers’ forms, don’t beat yourself up about it. This article talks about what you can do going forward to prevent any, or any further damage. As always, maybe you could consider sending those scammer numbers my way?

If you’ve been following the Olympics, the Soul Cap’s been banned for ridiculous reasons. Those regular swim caps suck for anyone with any amount of hair, and I hope the backlash the Powers that Be get from their crappy decision is enough to make them change it to allow these. [EDIT 12-1-2021: The link to the Soulcap website isn’t working. However, you can find them by googling “soulcap.”]

Remember the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie barbecue oven that used to air on TV like every two seconds? I do. Anyways, Ron Popeil died. Rest in peace, dude!

Don’t have the bread, but this spinach artichoke dip may be next in the rotation for me.

On a similar note, I found some Cracker Jacks knocking around in the pantry the other day. I may make that into my next batch of ice cream. Tbh, I’m getting kinda bored with the Sharkleberry Fin Kool-Aid batch you’ve probably seen me post about over on Instagram. [EDIT 2-26-2023: The original post is gone. I used those Cracker Jacks in a batch of homemade ice cream, and it turned out better than I expected. I found this Dorito casserole recipe I’d love to try instead.]

These cookie dough balls look like a ton of fun to make. I used to love cookie dough, and sometimes I get a hankering for it.

I don’t even wanna think about fall right now! I’m still in summer mode, but this post about a fall routine makes the upcoming fall months easier to swallow.

This post really makes me wish the plain white Converse platforms came in my size, but the more I think about it, the more I’m liking the hearts on the ones in my size. Haven’t owned a pair with hearts on ’em. before. Could be fun.

I’ve mentioned before around here often, but while weight loss is easy, it’s not at the same time. Barring any rare illnesses (and side effects from certain medications that can either cause it or make it a zillion times harder to lose weight), it’s calories in, calories out. [EDIT 12-4-2021: Original link wasn’t working, so I’ve swapped it out from a direct link instead.]

All the 90s nostalgia, in one post. I remember seeing Martin toward the end of its’ run, along with Living Single. I vaguely remember A Different World, and The Wayans Brothers was on the WB before that channel made it to our broadcast market. Moesha, Family Matters, and Sister Sister were on my shortlist.

Speaking of TV, this post makes me wish I had Netflix again. I’ve never seen or heard of Atypical, but now I’m curious. Seen it? Is it any good? Lemme know! [EDIT 1-5-2022: The link is gone, and sadly, the website is too. As my favor to you, I’ll check out Atypical, and see what I can come up with for you.]

In other news, Arthur’s ending its run. That show was my childhood, and I never missed an episode from middle all through high school. College classes created the schedule conflict, so I’d watch it once in a blue moon after that. While I didn’t care for the direction they took some of the characters as time went on, it’s gonna be a sad day when the last episode airs.

Isn’t Frank Sinatra’s stereo cool or what?

It’s interesting to know that the guitar was once considered a “women’s instrument.” I got me the cheapest highest quality guitar a little over a month ago, and seriously, if I had a dollar for every time someone ran their mouth at me, insulted me, and mocked me over it in that same amount of time, I could probably give Jeff Bezos a run for his money. On the flip side, it really outs people willing to dog on someone they don’t know from Eve for the petulant dick turds they are at the end of the day, eh?

While we’re on the subject of guitars, this video of a 1937 Martin D-18 from a few years ago is so cool. I love the way the original owner kept a scrapbook and a journal of their band, but watching Mark manhandle it like he did was irritating af. Whoever got that guitar is a lucky duck for sure!

Speaking of new hobbies, I picked up some cheapie fat quarters from Wally World last week, and one I liked over at Joann a few weeks ago. This post talks about all the fun things you can do with them. Have you ever made anything with fat quarters? If so, what’d you make?

Last but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. Malinda Jackson of Savannah, GA, is 13 years old, and the last confirmed sighting of her was on July 15th. If you see a child matching her description, do the right thing and contact the authorities. Let’s bring her home safe to those who love her!

Liked this? Then check these out!
