New Years Eve 2025, Or Auld Lang Syne | The Mission Within

New Years Eve 2025, or Auld Lang Syne

It’s New Years Eve 2025, and as I’m working on this, some areas of the world have already made it to New Years Day 2026. Me, I spent it at my summer job. This morning, I left for the early bus, since the buses are running on the Saturday schedule cuz of the holiday.

It also ended up being a different bus route altogether, since the one I usually ride would’ve gotten me to my summer job later instead of sooner as I like it to be, so I had to grab my flashlight for the morning walk. There’s no sidewalk in some parts of the walk to that stop, and it’s hard to see in order to be safe in some areas too.

The shops by that stop aren’t open yet, and the neighborhood’s a ghost town. Up the street is a convenience store w/ the lights blazing, and across the way is a Burger King, so it basically looks like an airport runway over there.

I ended up being the only one on the bus that early. That happens sometimes.

I thought about the training programs I could explore from both my jobs, and I’m exploring options w/ both. This way, I’m making damn sure that what happened 3 years ago never happens again.

Either way, something’s gotta change here. I feel like the time has come. My future kids say so. I have my heart set on one training program above all, but I got on the waitlist for a few others as fallbacks. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but I’m preparing for all possible outcomes just the same.

I had some plans for NYE beyond an office party at my summer job, specifically to go see a bagpipe performance for NYE, but I figured that I could just go hit up YouTube and find videos of it somewhere instead. I went to one last year, but after some guy decided to behave like a creep to me there, I’ve decided it’s best to leave that place behind in 2024.

I got the bus home, and decided I’d stay in for the night. It’s cold AF anyways, so no loss. Besides, since I don’t drink alcohol, what reason do I have to be at some stupid bar in the first place? That price of admission aint worth it.

Since the holiday season started, I’ve been watching Home for the Holidays on Pluto TV, where it looped among cooking shows from Julia Child, Gordon Ramsay, Delia Smith, Eric Lanlard, and Jamie Oliver. There were Today Show cooking segments, along w/ a more obscure show called Flour Power.

I feel like that could be its own post, haha.

I’m watching the New Years Eve 2026 Fireworks from Around the World. It’s looping among Auckland, NZ, Taiwan, Thailand, Dubai, and other countries who’ve already crossed over into 2026. Out of the countries that have had their fireworks broadcast on NBC News Now, I’d say the fireworks shows from Paris, Beijing, and Dubai were my favorites, w/ Bangkok and New Zealand coming in in the clutch. It’s hard to pick just one, for real!

I finally decided on a screenshot from NBC News Now’s broadcast of the fireworks show in Beijing. Those horses, though! I’d love to know how they did that, seriously.

I’m listening to Auld Lang Syne, and mentally taking stock of this past year. I can’t help but wonder if this is the year that what I’ve been wanting for myself will finally happen.

I don’t believe in New Years resolutions. Not in the sense of waiting for January 1st to get started on goals. Instead, I feel like there’s no better time like now to get started on those. Instead, I feel like this year, I’ll be continuing to work toward my goals.

For those of you reading from 2026, hi from 2025! I’ll be joining you in the new year soon. For those of you for whom 2025 has been a shitty year, know that I see you, and I feel w/ you. 2025 will be behind us soon, and 2026 will be a clean slate.

Over to you, readers. How are you celebrating New Years Eve 2025 and New Years Day 2026? I’d love to hear about it, so drop it all like it’s hawt, and let’s talk. We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
