Tomfoolery Telegraph #1: March 2022

A decorative image with a green background and a sketch rendering of a newspaper in the bottom left-hand corner, a sketch rendering of a typewriter with paper in the bottom right-hand corner, a sketch rendering of a flower in the upper left-hand corner, and a sketch rendering of a string of flowers in the upper right-hand corner. Text reads "The Mission Within Presents The Tomfoolery Telegraph," a series dedicated to TV shows, podcasts, new recipes I'm making, and things I'm doing.

Welcome to the first post of yet another new series! This one’s the Tomfoolery Telegraph, a series dedicated to entertainment of the month, including podcasts, books, movies, TV shows, recipes, and other stuff. Don’t let the title fool you. It’s not all gonna be tomfoolery, I promise! Some of it’s gonna be some seriously heavy-handed shyt, I’m telling you that right now. To kick off this new series, I’m gonna drop some of the stuff I’ve been listening to, watching, and reading for the month. No set date on when I’m gonna post future installments, but I think that’s part of the fun of it, eh?

Just so we’re both on the same page, even though something may be listed here, it doesn’t mean that I’m over it in the next month. 9 times out of 10, it’s probably gonna stay on my shortlist, even if it leaves the free selections.

Anyways, here’s what I’m listening to: Leah Remini’s Scientology: Fair Game. These Scientology dickwads are abusive on so many levels, and the stories are heartbreaking. We have to remember that even though they’re brainwashed cult members who’ve sunk thousands of dollars into this, they can be dangerous af. I used to think they went into this believing in Xenu. Thanks to Leah and Mike’s show on A&E, I learned otherwise: Xenu’s sprung on them later in the grooming and indoctrination process.

What I’m watching: Pluto TV channels Black Throwbacks, Classic Toons (srsly, some of those aged like milk, haha), Forever Kids (formerly known as After School Cartoons), No Parents Allowed, Military, and History. Also watching WeatherNation from time to time.

What I’m reading: Wikipedia articles between job applications and research for upcoming blog posts.

What I’m doing: Cleaning out the basement and taking things I don’t feel ok selling over to the thrift store, and throwing stuff up on eBay. Threw in the towel on Etsy, sorry not sorry.

What I’ve made: More of that good ol’ fashioned lunch lady-style pizza, with the latest shown on Instagram. I’m halfway through this batch, and I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll make another pizza. I’d also love to make this loco moco recipe too. Also attempting a quilt out of the t-shirts with funny sayings my mom and I lived for when I was in high school, made from the flannel sheet that was on her bed as the backing, and the regular sheet for the front of it. It’s fallen by the wayside for obvious reasons.

Albums I’m into: It’s a Crazy World, Whitney, Cuts Both Ways, Rissi Palmer, and That’s Enough of That.

Movies I’m into: Encanto, Legally Blonde (my mom and I loved it ever since it came out on DVD when I was in high school), Pretty Woman, Jackass Forever, Downfall, Bob Saget: Zero to Sixty, and Bob Saget: That’s What I’m Talking About.

Over to you, readers. What’s on your Tomfoolery Telegraph, or your entertainment shortlist for this month? Got any recs for anything? Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts and takeaways, so drop it all like it’s hot below, and let’s get the party started up in here!
