Hey, everyone, how’re you holding up? It’s been a really difficult week, both on a personal level and on a grander scale. The shooting at Robb Elementary’s caught up w/ me, and I’m mourning the 21 lives lost, and the 18 children who are now officially elementary school kids forever. The time for thoughts was over long before this, imo. Actions are where it’s at. It’s Friday, and that means weekend time. Anyways, what are your weekend plans? To be honest, I’d really prefer to do nothing. I need to continue w/ the job search, but I made a promise to a connection over on LinkedIn that I’d take a breather. A promise is a promise, after all.
Over to you, readers. What are your weekend plans? I hope they’re a zillion times better than mine ever were and ever will be. Either way, I’d love to hear all about it, so drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started up in here!
To ring in the long weekend, I’ve got us some links for us to talk about, share, what have you.
I’d love to make this matar paneer sometime. Love that stuff in the cans, but I feel like it’s time for me to learn to make my own stuff, eh?
As a heads-up, this article contains insanely racist and prejudiced ideas about food from different cultures. Anyways, this post about two leaders of a church in Canada who came up w/ the lamebrain idea of DIY Fear Factor using Asian restaurants. It would be one thing if they had a restrictive eating disorder, and the stuff they tried was a fear food for them. However, I feel like if they were fear foods, they’d have to have been exposed to them in the first place. In the leaders’ case, it didn’t appear that was the case for them. Shame on them! As a personal aside, prejudiced mofos like these two is part of why organized religion ain’t for me.
How to hack your girlfriend’s account in one easy step: fuhgeddaboudit.
This infographic is helpful for anyone.
Things former military personnel may carry for life.
I’d love to check out this book sometime.
This piece about “Sophia,” a 51-year-old living w/ chemical sensitivities and her decision to end her life due to the lack of available housing is beyond heartbreaking. If Sophia was living in my town, she’d likely still be here b/c many of the apartments and rental properties in town have gone smoke-free. It never had to get this bad. Rest in peace, Sophia. The ancestors know who you are.
I feel like if a company or recruiter truly respects someone, they’ll be up-front about the salary range and keep it real.
I tried the Hirect app and had zero luck on it. This piece is worth the read, though.
This level of gatekeeping in the job market needs to stop, and to any hiring manager who holds the pandemic against a candidate: do us all a solid and knock that shyt off. I mean it! You’re hurting us, and you’re hurting yourselves.
I hope there’s a new level of hell for the turds who destroyed the statue of Maria Tallchief. Lucky for us, there’s a new statue of her in the works.
Re-recordings are a thing, fair enough. Just be honest, ffs. Here’s how to spot ’em and avoid ’em.
Never heard of Pinecone and Pony before, but I’ll have to check it out sometime.
The case for returning to the office.
Love this Baylor Law graduation speech!
Nice to see places named in honor of Confederate figureheads have now been renamed. This was long overdue.
The tragedy at the Tops in Buffalo the weekend before last is why everyone needs to talk about racism, including those who aren’t considered people of color. Love the part about why the laws shifted b/c there were White allies involved. It’s more proof that not everyone subscribed to those awful worldviews.
All the more reason trust is sacrosanct.
Let’s honor the Sandy Hook Promise through action, on that note.
This blog is full of content you wanna spend an evening reading.
For some reason, this article reminded me of Rescue 911, which has its’ own channel on Pluto TV. My mom and I used to watch it all the time during its’ run whenever it’d come on. Idk if we ever missed an episode. Anyways, there would’ve been a link to an article for a 911 dispatcher’s phenomenal work, if they hadn’t paywalled it.
Since it’s AAPI Heritage Month, this link talks about how to use Asian names, and how to denote them.
Remember the 4 year old murder victim from 1960 known as “Little Miss Nobody” for so many years? I know, this is a horrible name to refer to her as. It was a case that’s haunted me ever since I read about it years ago. In my head, I gave her the name Pamela Jayne. She has now been ID’d as Sharon Lee Gallegos. Rest easy, Sharon. I’m so sorry for what happened to you, and so sorry it took this long to find you!
The unidentified remains of a teen boy found in 2019, formerly known as “John Riverdale Doe,” has now been ID’d as Dywimas Autman. Rest in peace, Dywimas. Whatever happened to you in March 2019, I’m sorry for it. You’re loved, and you’re safe now.
Last but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 14-year-0ld Zirena Bryant of Indianapolis, IN was on May 5th, 2022. According to the poster, it is likely that Zirena is in the company of an adult male. If you see a child matching Zirena’s description, make that call. Let’s get Zirena home safe to the ones who care about her!
