The Weekend Docket

A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

Happy Fri-yay, everyone! It’s weekend time once again, and we’re almost through the month of March. That means it’s time to talk weekend plans. Mine were originally to go check out some places, but since the weather sucks, and since I’m not feeling good on top of that, I’m gonna go to a mall and do some walking there instead. Maybe I’ll pick up one of those Stanley cups I saw out there recently. Yeah, those. Otherwise, I’m gonna lay low.

I’m also thankful I got a new pair of glasses on order from Zenni. They weren’t the ones I originally wanted from a brick and mortar store. My insurance probably wouldn’t have covered em anyways, so those can be a someday pair instead. I knew for sure I was done w/ the Luxottica monopoly, and besides, I’ve had to special-order my lenses from there since high school since they only stock a certain range, and that was when I left that range. Anyways, I’m nervous cuz I never ordered something like this online before, but looking forward to getting em in the mail.

Over to you, readers. What’re your weekend plans? Good, bad, both, or neither, I’d still love to hear all about it. Drop it all like it’s hawt, and let’s talk.

To ring in the weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

Came into ownership of some fresh broccoli recently, and I made this roasted broccoli last weekend. I’m mostly through the batch, but I like to make it plain, so I can add sauces and seasonings later.

I’d love to try this meatball risotto sometime, but w/ ground turkey instead. I’ll have to try it and see how it goes.

Not sure if any of y’all follow the Kentucky Derby, since I don’t. My knowledge of it is in passing, haha. Anyways, here’s the difference between a Kentucky Derby hat and a fascinator.

Jelly Roll’s training for a 5k. Go you, Jelly Roll! I’m rooting for you!

I wanna try and make these silk roses. I got a dress pattern from 1983 that calls for something like these, and finding these in the stores is like finding a needle in a thousand haystacks if I wanna avoid Amazon. There’s the small ribbon flowers at JoAnn and Wally World, which I got, but I feel like they may be a bit smaller than what I’d like to use em for.

I was today years old when I found out it was possible to clean a straw hat. I’ll try this on the one I don’t care about anymore before I try it out on the good one I’ve had since college.

Paul Alexander contracted polio when he was 6 years old in 1952, and utilized an iron lung since then. Sad to report that we lost him at 78 years old on March 13th. Rest in peace, Paul!

This year will be the end of DDT. It came out in the 1940s, and I had no idea it was never tested properly in the first place.

I always wondered why legal pads were made from yellow paper instead of white.

Last, but never least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 2-year-old Jacqueline D. Leonard of Orlando, FL was on March 18th, 2024. According to the poster, baby Justyce Leonard, and 6-year-old Summer Mercelin are also listed. They may have been in the North Carolina area recently, and they’re in the company of an adult female, traveling in a silver 2018 Honda Civic w/ Texas plates. If you have any knowledge as to the whereabouts of Summer, Justyce, and Jacqueline after March 18th, or if you see children matching their description, make that call.

Even though it’s a sad trend to have to talk about, the longer a child remains missing, the chances of a tragic ending to the story increase. However, there’s always hope, and there’s always outliers. The last confirmed sighting of long-term missing child Sheila Renee Quinn of Chicago IL was February 27th, 1980. She was last seen in her bedroom of a 9th floor apartment, where she shoulda been safe from harm. According to Our Black Girls, Sheila was 4 years old at the time of her disappearance, born in 1975, and authorities suspect foul play. This year, Sheila turns 49.

It’s been 9 months since the last confirmed sighting of Keshaun Williams. Anyone out there w/ any knowledge of Keshaun’s whereabouts after June 27th 2023, Sheila’s whereabouts after February 27th 1980, or the whereabouts of Jacqueline, Justyce and Summer after March 18th, make that call. Let’s get these kids home to those who love em.
