The Weekend Docket

Happy Fri-yay, everyone! It’s hard to believe this week was so long, and so short at the same time, but here we are. Weekend time’s upon us once again, and that means one thing: time to talk weekend plans. My weekend plans are to go to this shop I haven’t been to in forever, at least not since before the pandemic. My day job took me to the neighborhood it’s in, and I had a chance to step in there for a few minutes. I’ll consider it the teaser trailer like in the movies, haha. I’m also hoping to make it over to another place in town, and hopefully get some steps in. Now that pool season is over officially, that frees up the calendar beyond the farmer’s market.

I’ve also got plans to go to this place and meet someone this evening. If I get even the slightest, vaguest feeling of sus, I’m outta there. I’m getting the next bus going outbound or inbound, and I’ll be going to one of the shops there before I go home. After what happened in the past, I’m not taking chances. Fool me once, after all. Fool me once.

On top of that, I’ve also got plans to do some cleaning, and also make some stuff for my day job to bring in next week at some point, after I get the measurements and try to find something to copy the pattern onto.

But anyways, nuff about me. How bout you, readers? What’re your weekend plans? Good, bad, both, neither, I’d still love to hear about it, so drop it all like it’s hawt, and let’s get this party started!

To ring in the weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

I was today years old when I first heard of Erewhon being a thing beyond a super crunchy/organic cereal brand, and also today years old when I saw they basically cost a fuckin fortune. Like 20 bucks for a smoothie, and most of the smoothies on their menu is stuff I’m now allergic to. Enter Erewhon copycat recipes, like this one for tofu that I’d love to try. I wonder how this would work in my air fryer. I’m guessing that it would be messy, but I saw some air fryer liners at TJ Maxx last time I was there. I’m also wondering if I could make the sauce ahead of time, so I’ll try it out and see how that goes.

How to find a book when you forgot its’ title. This happened to me recently, and when I found it, it was a book that haunted me for years after I read it in high school. Let’s just say it’s for the best I forgot the title.

I’d love to try matcha tea, and this post talks about different varieties.

As a heads-up, this link contains mention of gun violence. If this is something you’re not in the headspace to hear about, give this one a miss. Here’s what’s known about the school shooting in Georgia, where 2 kids and 2 teachers were murdered. A standalone post may or may not be forthcoming about this. Rest in peace and power, Richard Aspinwall, Mason Schermerhorn, Christian Angulo, and Christina Irimie.

How climate change is fueling gender inequality.

On a brighter note, this guy’s living proof that age aint nothing but a number, and there’s no such thing as too late. He just graduated med school at 70!

How plaid became a staple for school uniforms and dress codes. I had no idea they started taking off around the postwar era.

Last, but never least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 19-year-old Mischa Johnson of Schofield Barracks, HI was on July 31st, 2024. No other information is listed beyond another photo of her.

Even though it’s a sad statistic to get into, the longer a child remains missing, the more the odds of them returning home to their loved ones diminish. However, it’s important to remember that this is the general trend, and that there are always outliers. There is always hope. This is why I’m highlighting a long-term missing case, and this time, we’ll be talking about Ricky Jean Bryant. The last confirmed sighting of Ricky, who went by a variation of her middle name Jeannie, was on December 19th, 1949. There was a fire at her house, and her family lived in rural Mauston, WI. Jeannie was home w/ her older brother Forrest, and her little sister Elizabeth, their grandma Helen, and grandpa Casper. Their older sister Sharon was at school, and their youngest sister Sandrea wasn’t born yet. Jeannie was in the front yard while the firefighters were there, but when they were done, she was gone. According to The Doe Network, Jeannie’s older brother Forrest remembered seeing a woman approach the house in a new car. This site says that Jeannie’s grandma Helen was born to Norwegian immigrants. Forrest described the woman who came to their house in that new car as having blonde hair, and that the woman told him to go to a different house to call for help instead of the one closest to them, likely as a stalling tactic. Their grandma seemed to have some knowledge of this, but Forrest didn’t know that woman from Eve. That same site says that the authorities were never able to determine a cause for the fire, which means arson hasn’t been ruled out. The remains found weren’t a match to Jeannie, which means she’s more than likely still alive. Jeannie was 4 years old at the time of her disappearance. Jeannie’s siblings have all passed on, w/ the exception of Elizabeth, who is in her 70s, and was only 2 when this happened. The photo shown in the NCMEC poster of her was taken around the time of her disappearance in 1949, and an age-progressed photo shows what she may look like at 75. She turns 79 this year.

If anyone out there has any knowledge of Mischa’s whereabouts after July 31st, 2024, or Jeannie’s whereabouts after December 19th, 1949, I encourage you to make that call. Let’s get Mischa and Jeannie home safe to those who love em, pronto!
