We’re coming down to the wire, and today is New Years’ Eve here in the U.S. It’s basically already 2021 in Australia, so I know the world isn’t coming to an end. A lot of people have their own personal traditions when it comes to the end of the year, and others may view it like any other day in the calendar.
Others take time to write out their goals, and maybe even resolutions for the coming year. In the past, losing weight was always on my list of New Years’ resolutions. I’d try, only for others to sabotage me in the process or fall off the wagon for whatever reason, and end up where I started (or worse at one point). This year, that’s no longer on the list of resolutions for me, since I’m close to where I’d like to be in that department. It feels surreal, and there’s a sense of freedom I’ve never felt before. JSYK, if any of you are feeling bummed that you can’t seem to lose those last few pounds, those will take time to come off. It won’t be at the speed it probably was when you started, but as long as you keep pushing forward and taking the steps to meet those goals, your clothes and/or the scale will reflect it.
For me, I’ve decided against New Years resolutions for the most part. Instead, I’m going to consider them New Year goals. This way, there’s a lot less pressure thrown into the process. This year, I hope to do the following, in no particular order.
- Read five new books.
- Use up at least one notebook from my stash per month, along with some of the craft stuff my family’s had knocking around the house since Reagan was in office, haha.
- Pay off the last of my student loans, and be done with those jack-offs once and for all.
- Try out a more difficult sewing pattern.
- Work with two brands on this blog.
- Watch five new documentaries.
- Have a staycation.
- Try five new recipes.
- Be consistent w/ my gratitude journal.
- Buy stock in a company.
This year, I hope to make enough to afford a season pass for the amusement park, since they changed the rates. I’m also planning on going to the fair at least twice when it’s in town, with the money I’ve been saving up for over a year.
But tonight is the last night of 2020. Do any of you have any plans for tonight? For me, I’ll have my own little New Years’ Eve Good Riddance party, which is one of the things I read about in Mrs. Sharpe’s Traditions. It’s a little ritual where you write out your list of regrets from the year, wrap it in black paper to seal in the bad luck, and chuck it into a fireplace, at least according to the book. No way I’d recommend throwing something like that in a fireplace, no how. Instead, I’d recommend you either take the list and add it to a compost bin, rip it up and throw it away the night before garbage collection day, or burn it in a barbecue grill.
In the past, I used to go outside in the middle of the night and throw confetti when the clock hits midnight. I think I’ll add that to my list too. I’ve got some confetti left over from last year, and don’t worry, readers, it’s not the type with plastic or that weird metallic substance I can’t quite describe.
How about you, readers? What are things you’d like to do this year? What are your plans for New Years’ Eve? Drop those plans like hot potatoes in the comments below, and let’s inspire each other. To get us in New Years’ mode, here’s a song I fell in love with when I first heard it on an old rerun of Lawrence Welk on PBS one time.
