The Weekend Docket

A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

Oh, baby, it’s Friday! Seriously, I can’t believe it’s Friday already, and that means another weekend is upon us. It’s hard to believe we’ll have officially been in the new house for two weeks as of tomorrow. We were cleared to start moving in two weeks ago yesterday when we got the key, but we weren’t technically moved in until the weekend. It’s been a week of getting back into the swing of things with my day job, recovering physically from the 9 to 17 hours a day I spent every day the week before on the move, and the 7 to 10 hours a day I spent last week doing some rough cleaning at the old house as a favor to our now-former landlord.

This weekend, I’m probably gonna stay in and get some more unpacking done, and get some boxes empty. My plan is to pass those on to someone else who needs ’em and pay it forward. Also, there’s day job stuff, and this blog on the list as usual.

I’m hoping to hit up Wally World or Target at some point soon for another rod to put in my closet. The one at the old house is too big to fit this one, so it was a no-go for sure. I’m also hoping to get started on a project I’ve been wanting to do before the move, since it’s still cold enough here to justify it.

Monster Jam is back in town. I went before the pandemic started, and I’d love to go back this weekend. From where I’m at now, it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it. Anyone who’s going, definitely report back and tell me everything. I wanna live vicariously through you!

How about you, readers? What are your plans this weekend? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s talk.

To ring in the weekend, I’ve got some links for us to talk about, share, what have you.

Love this article about Kamryn, the 1st grader who wrote to Old Navy asking for them to start putting actual pockets in their jeans. I noticed they seemed to have an aversion to functional front pockets when I hit this size range myself, which is why I don’t have a lot of pieces from there right now. That being said, I’m excited to see what they’ll come up with going forward!

This guy is seriously goals! I saw one of his cooking videos recently, and I had to take a look around his site. It’s really making me want nachos sometime soon. Haven’t had those in awhile, now that I think about it.

This take on cupcakes looks interesting. It’s for the Instant Pot, but idk how it wouldn’t work in an oven.

These cookies really say summer! I’m not a fan of peaches, but I’ve got a can of pineapple that’s been knocking around in my pantry since well before the move. Maybe I could use it up this way?

Bernie Madoff died this week, and here’s some of the spoils from his ill-gotten gains. I hate to say this, but I’m not at all sorry he’s gone, not after the total devastation he’s caused so many people (including his own f’ing family!), and continues to cause for them. Elie Wiesel was one of them, and that really burns me up. To anyone out there who lost money to this turd, I’m so sorry for what happened to you, and I hope that his passing gives you at least some closure, whatever that looks like for you.

This post deals with a difficult topic, so if workplace abuse is something that’s upsetting to you, skip this.

Progress on rebuilding the Notre Dame Cathedral after the fire two years ago has been slow-going, but it’s happening.

Damn, Chris Meloni’s hot! People on Twitter are talking about it in the new spinoff coming soon to the airwaves.

Informative post about bath bombs. My new house has a tub in it instead of just a shower, and I’ve had bath bombs on my shopping list ever since the landlord approved our application to rent the place. Now I know what to look for when I actually get the money to pick some up! [EDIT 12-1-2021: The link to the original post no longer exists, and the site is down as of the date of posting for this update. However, I’ll see what I can come up with about bath bomb safety for a future post as a favor to you.]

I’ve never heard of Black Mirror before, but this post has me interested in checking it out sometime. [EDIT 1-5-2022: This link is gone, and so is the website, sad to say. However, as my favor to you, I’ll give Black Mirror a watch sometime soon, and do my own write-up on it.]

Ways to care for your wardrobe. Before I lost the weight, I had the cheapest stuff that I could get into from whatever place went big enough for me, and would throw it in the washer and dryer on the warm or hot settings. Never thought anything of it after that. As I moved forward losing the weight and started getting things I actually wanted and liked, that changed for sure. [EDIT 2-26-2023: The original post is gone, so instead I added the link to the site itself. I may do a post about this at some point.]
