It’s the last week of this wretched year, and the end of this garbage holiday season for me. It’s the first weekend of the New Year, so that means double the fun: holiday weekend time! I spent my week job hunting, and serving as a pet sitter for someone who was going out of town for the week. Today’s my last day working with this adorable Australian Shepherd mix cutie I’ll call Jason. Jason’s owner adopted him recently, and there’s quite a bit of unknowns in terms of his history. On one of our walks, he charged at a neighborhood dog behind a fence, like someone shot him from a cannon. The leash did nothing to stop him, and thankfully I was able to keep up with him to calm him down and get him home. My guess is that either Jason wasn’t socialized to deal with other dogs appropriately while he lived with his former owner, or Jason’s had a difficult experience with other dogs at some point in his past.
Either way, Jason does the cutest thing when he gets a tummy rub where he’ll lick at nothing, just like my late boy cat did.
Anyway, my weekend plans are to hopefully be able to make it to a New Years’ Eve party going on at a neighborhood restaurant. Otherwise, it’s nothing but job hunting, and even more on top of that to make up for the job hunting I didn’t do while I was pet sitting, working on some stuff for the day job, and this blog.
Something has to change, yesterday. I’m getting desperate beyond words, and so is my situation.
Enough about me. How ’bout you, readers? Got any plans for New Years’ Eve tonight? Got any fun weekend plans? I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that all of you will be at midnight parties, watching the ball drop in Times Square, or hosting super-fancy parties at your places. Yes? I hope so. If not, no worries! I’d still love to hear about your plans either way, so drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started.
To ring in the New Year and the weekend, killing two birds with one stone, I’ve got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.
Stuck with a buttload of leftover turkey from the holidays, and looking for ideas on how to use up leftover turkey? This list of recipes is a great place to get started.
Love this Tlingit Christmas Carol. I was so bummed that there was no way I could see it, but guess what? For those of us too far away to travel to the showings, there’s a way to see it here!
Yvonne Bedard of the Six Nations of the Grand River community died at 84. Rest in peace, Yvonne. You made a positive impact in your community, to say the least!
Uemura Masayuki, the creator of Nintendo, also died recently. He was 78 years old. Rest in peace, Uemura.
In early 1964, 7-year-old Paula died of a blood disorder, but just before she died, she made a popcorn garland for the Christmas tree. This article talks about how her parents still have that popcorn garland, even nearly 60 years later.
Loving Chance the Rapper’s country-rock rendition of Hot in Herre. I remember that song from high school, and I’d totally buy this if it’s ever available on single or in the iTunes store. Country and hip-hop are more like cousins, so I’m not surprised this worked so well.
New stuff’s entering the public domain next year, and I’m looking forward to it!
Great write-up of the New Yorker’s upcoming issue. I’m with Russo, I don’t really have any resolutions for the coming year.
For you fellow job seekers, here’s some red flags to be on the lookout for. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start. I hope we all get those next great new jobs as a New Years’ present.
On a similar note, here’s a post on how to spot a job scam and and identity theft trap. As soon as I find another job, after I get a good sense of what my schedule’s gonna look like, I’m gonna set up shop and bait these asshole job scammers. I’m gonna keep these turds on the hook for as long as I’m able to. I may or may not jerk MLMs around, idk yet. Should I? Lemme know.
A great article about crossword puzzles. True story, I tried to make my own crossword puzzles back in high school and early college. They ended up being total dumpster fires.
Authorities have started exploring genetic DNA in JonBenet Ramsey’s murder in 1996. I hope this gets them closer to finding whoever did it. DNA evidence ruled out her family, so I’m betting it’s someone who knew the family, and had been inside their house at some point. Otherwise, why else would it have come that easy to them to break in?
Saw this guitar pick maker a while back, and I’ve got plans to get me one. Not a sponsored link.
A street food vendor, Auan Pochana, took a hit during the pandemic, and Chanchai, the owner, died back in July. His son’s now taken over the business, and according to this article, they’re bouncing back. Yay!
Did any of you readers get a Cricut this year? I didn’t, but I have access to one. This post shows you how to get started. I’m gonna try it out for myself sometime soon, and I’ll report back.
A Maori news anchor with the traditional facial tattoos became the first primetime anchor in New Zealand. So here for it!
This article talks about the importance of creating an “If I Go Missing” package with all your important information. I may have to get started on this sometime. Are you gonna make one? Lemme know in the comments below.
Last but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 5-year-old Oakley Carlson, of Oakville, WA, was on November 30th, 2021. If you see a child matching this description, make that call. I know it’s short notice, but let’s get her home to the people who love her in time for the New Year.
Remember the three Wright kids who went missing last week? I’m happy to say all three of them are safe, and their dad’s in custody where he belongs.
