Second week into the new year, and we all know what that means: weekend time. A long weekend, at least for those of us living in the U.S since Monday’s a holiday. My weekend plans are to continue moving forward in my job search life sentence (so what else is new?), and maybe work more on the e-book. The more I think about the e-book, the less I feel like ever wanting to touch it again.
If I end up deciding against the e-book, I hope you’ll understand. I’ve already decided to keep it in the air about sharing any of this on LinkedIn, leaning more towards “nope” more and more, so there’s that.
We’re due for something major in terms of the weather, so it looks like I’ll be laying low for the weekend anyway. If I go out, it’ll be to go knocking around the neighborhood. I’m gonna do some meal-prepping, since I finally got through the last of the confetti brown rice-macaroni and cheese I made a couple weeks ago. Now that that’s a done deal, I can finally move on to what I’ve been wanting to make for the longest time.
‘Nuff about me, how ’bout you, readers? What are your weekend plans? I hope it’s anything but this shyt. If your weekend plans are similar, then I’m so sorry to hear this. We’re in this together, and even if it never gets better for me, I hope it does for you.
In order to ring in the weekend, Mission Within-style, I’ve got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.
I’d love to make some of this Jollof rice sometime. You’ve probably seen my Instagram post about the Joll0f-style fonio I picked up from Target, so I’m gonna make the real deal.
This Ethiopian lentil stew looks like it’d be a ton of fun to make, too. All I was missing was the Berbere spice, which I picked up for a couple bucks over at World Market.
I may make simple syrup from the infused sugar I posted on Instagram too. I’ll make another batch of infused sugar now that my hand’s healed from multiple grater accidents with the infused sugar, haha.
Bob Saget died last weekend, which I talked about in a post earlier this week. His funeral was today.
We also lost James Mtume, of Mtume. I remember hearing a few of their songs as a kid. Rest in peace, bud!
This disgusting company had it coming to them. Fun fact: I applied for a job there years back, never heard anything but radio silence from them. A relative sent me a lead about remote work through them, and they want you to have a fuckton of equipment. None of it is anything I have or have access to, and never had it when I applied back then. Now I know for sure I’ll never be working for them, no matter what their pay rate is. Besides, their pay rate’s pathetic, so bullet dodged!
A guide to asshole cat behaviors. These were my two late girl cats, and my late boy cat. They’d better have been thankful they were so cute, snuggly, toasty, and adorable. I miss ’em so much.
A kid dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II, and the Queen herself responded! So cool! [EDIT, 1-29-2022: The link is broken.]
Love what Huntsman Savile Row’s doing in partnership with Morehouse College.
A Bellevue doctor’s pandemic diary. On a personal note, I actually tried to start up a pandemic journal when the lockdown started in March 2020. I never finished it.
This judge’s behavior was way out of line. Fuckin’ despicable, that’s what.
Last, but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 18-year-old Brendan Santo, of East Lansing, MI, was in October 2021. If you see a child matching this description, or have any knowledge as to his whereabouts after October 2021, make that call. Let’s ring in the new year with a bang for the people who love him by getting him home safe to them.
