Another week behind us, and one more week closer to spring. I can say for sure I’m so over winter. We’re due for some insanely cold weather with highs in the single digits, so I’m gonna lay low for the weekend, work more on this blog, and knock out stuff for my day job. Things are starting to pick back up for me as far as that goes, so I’ll take it as a win. I’m also hoping to try making a clone of a vintage Paddington Bear nightgown I got from this flannel on sale at the craft store. I love that thing to pieces, but this time of year calls for something a little less lightweight. It’ll probably end up being shorter since there isn’t as much material in the yardage as I thought there’d be.
Now it’s your turn, readers. Got any plans for this weekend? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s ring in the weekend together with the links I found below. Talk about ’em, share ’em, you know the drill.
Got a stray can of Manwich that’s been living in the pantry for way too long? This dip would be a great way to use it up, and I feel like it really says Super Bowl Sunday.
Speaking of recipes, I like this story about the origins of buldak, and how it’s paired with Maangchi’s recipe for it. I’d love to try it out sometime.
ICYMI, this week is also Identity Theft Awareness Week. Due to the pandemic, there’s been a surge in reported cases of identity theft. A family member of mine had a close call, and so did I. It was the worst feeling, and while we acted quick enough so there were no losses, it was still upsetting all the same. My heart goes out to any of you readers if this happened to you. If you missed anything, they’ll have it available for viewing on-demand.
I’m late to the party on this one, but I stumbled upon this story about Elizabeth Sweetheart, also known as the Green Lady of Brooklyn. Idk about you, but I love the brand she’s got goin’ on, and the dedication to it as well. BTW, she seems like such a lovely person. I wonder how she’s holding up these days.
Great piece about a Holocaust survivor who relocated to the U.S. and went on to become a Hollywood business owner, hairdresser, and cosmetologist. I love how he went on to make himself into something the people who did this to him and the Powers that Be who condoned it could never claim to be. Like someone in the comments said, success is the greatest revenge. I agree with this for sure, and I think it’s gonna become a motto for me.
In the world of space and science, this article talks about how a NASA intern discovered a new planet on their third day on the job in 2019. So impressive!
Who here was a fan of the American Girl books as a kid? I definitely was, and for Black History Month, they’re making their books about Addy, Gabriella, Melody, and Cecile and Marie-Grace free to read. There’s also a book about Rosa Parks and Misty Copeland, too. I loved the Addy books as a kid, and the Samantha books also. Anyway, I couldn’t put No Ordinary Sound down.
On a brighter note, this countdown shows how many days we have until the end of winter. The sooner, the better as far as I’m concerned. [EDIT 12-1-2021: This link is now broken.]
