The Weekend Docket

A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

Another week, and another weekend upon us. I’ve been job hunting all this week, and should be hearing back from one of the recruiters I was in touch with today. I’m hoping for the best, but honestly expecting the worst. Going forward, I’m expecting nothing. This way, I’m not disappointed either way. I’m through letting these companies get my hopes up the way they’ve done, and I’m done giving them that kind of power over me.

The farmers’ market is still on, so I’ll be hitting them up this weekend. Other than that, more job hunting, working on the blog, and getting a head start on a couple new assignments from my day job. If I get the chance, I hope to make it out to the music store, and maybe Wally World if I still have the energy. Either one would work for me.

Enough about me. How ’bout you readers? What are your weekend plans? Drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started.

To ring in the weekend, I’ve got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

This recipe for dalgona looks like a lotta fun to make. I made a batch of japchae using Maangchi’s recipe last summer on the grill with my cast-iron skillet, and I loved it.

What a neat idea for mashed potatoes! I’m totally gonna have to try this sometime too.

Helpful hits for cleaning your stove. I agree with the Scrub Daddy and Scrub Mommy. I swear by ’em both.

Fake pandemic introvert vs. the real deal.

Arthur Miller and the making of Willy Loman. It’s an old article, but a fun read anyway.

5 ways to upcycle your old clothes. This reminds me of this book I had from American Girl, Jazz Up Your Jeans. Idk what happened to the copy I had, but I saw some online real cheap. [EDIT 12-1-2021: The link to the original post isn’t working for some reason. However, if you’re still interested in ways to upcycle your old stuff, I’ll see what I can rustle up for you in a future post as a favor to you.]

New trends in yacht design. This thing seriously looks like something out of The Fifth Element.

A new documentary about Brittany Murphy is coming out. I found a copy of her autopsy report, and from what I remember of it, I’m not surprised at the revelations that she was in pain before she died. So heartbreaking!

A former teacher at what used to be St. Mary’s Mission boarding school speaks out. She was only there for a school year, and her experience there still stays with her. JSYK, this article contains mention of violence and abuse toward children, so if you need to give this one a miss, do so for sure.

That same article also mentions Smoker Marchand, a sibling of a former student, and his art. I love these!

A guy shares his handwriting for a Yoruba assignment. So cool!

A kid wrote a letter to a WWII veteran when she was 9, and they reunited years later when she went into the service herself. Thank you both for your service, Deshauna and Frank!

When work invades your sleep. Been there, done that. School did it to me, too.

A piece about Frog and Toad’s relationship. These were one of my favorite books as a kid, before I moved into chapter books.

This story contains mention of sexual violence, so if you need to give this one a miss, do so. This reminds me of the time someone was inappropriate with me on the bus back in college, complete with the lack of concern from bystanders. That’s a story for another time, but everyone who did nothing to help this lady should seriously be ashamed of themselves. Someone from the bus company intervened and called the police. The asswipe who did it is in custody, where he belongs. If the lady from the bus ever finds this, know that I’m so sorry for what happened to you. You didn’t deserve any of this, and I wish I could take away whatever you’re feeling right now.

Sad news in the case of Xavior Harrelson. This was definitely not the outcome we all wanted, so now let’s help find Xavior’s family the answers they deserve. If you know anything about Xavior’s whereabouts after his reported disappearance, make that call.

In other news, Dog the Bounty Hunter‘s joined the search for Gabby Petito’s killer. The more boots on the ground finding this turd, the merrier. If you have any information on his whereabouts, make that call, and let’s get him off the streets.

Last but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 15 year old Leandra Rice of Washington, DC was October 6th, 2021. If you see a child matching her description, or know anything about her whereabouts after October 6th, make that call. Let’s get her home safe to the people who care about her.
