Hey, what’s good, everyone? Can’t believe we’ve come to the end of another week, and we all know what that means: weekend time, and holiday weekend time at that? My weekend plans are to continue serving out my life sentence of a job search. Garbage Easter to me, eh? I’m 100% convinced that opportunities aren’t finite, but exclusionary, meaning they’re for everyone but me. This is forever. Yes, I know, I posted the week before that I finally got a job, but it’s a long story.
I turned in my resignation and one-week notice on Sunday. I drew that line. Without going into too much detail, it didn’t end well. Better I find out sooner instead of later, before I got too invested in it. Since they weren’t paying me anyway, it didn’t matter. I even offered to work during the notice as a favor to them, but they weren’t having it.
Any company that states outright that they can’t pay a salary has no fuckin business hiring anyone, imo. I got no love for companies like this.
Anyways, ’nuff about me. How ’bout you, readers? Got any plans for the holiday weekend? I hope that whatever they are, they’re better than this wretched existence I’m living. If they’re not, then I see you, and we’ll live in misery together, eh? Whatever your plans, I’d love to hear all about ’em, so drop ’em like they’re hot below, and let’s get the party started.
To ring in the weekend, I’ve got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.
Show of hands, who here remembers Marilyn Manson? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Anyways, I wasn’t a fan of his music (except for one decent-ish cover), but I did like his aesthetic, and yes, I did read his book. I remember reading about a girl who was obsessed w/ him in high school, and I wonder how she’s holding up these days. This piece is horrifying, and tbh, I guess this shouldn’t have come as a shocker to me. The signs were there, but nobody knew to connect the dots. To every single one of Brian’s victims, whether you’ve come forward or not, I want you to know that I see you, I believe you, and you didn’t deserve what happened.
On a happier note, Ketanji Brown Jackson has been nominated to the Supreme Court! What a victory! I wish my mom was here to see this, and I’m so excited to see what’s ahead for Justice Jackson.
Love this piece about integrity and autism. So fitting for Autism Acceptance Month!
This post about courage culture and its’ true inaccessibility is worth the read. I’m not familiar w/ Brene Brown outside of the quotes on Pinterest, so I can’t speak to this firsthand. However, the post shows just how courage culture falls short for certain communities that aren’t considered the ‘default.’ There’s a reading list of alternatives to courage culture, and while it’s on Amazon, I’m sure most of these books, if not all of ’em, can be had from your favorite bookstore or your local library.
A piece about why we need to move on from calling it “imposter syndrome,” and instead call it for what it is, a response to other ppl’s idiot prejudices and biases.
A piece about the history behind some of the most common phrases and idioms in our society, and how they’re offensive. Some of these were things I had no idea were offensive, but if someone out there thinks they are offensive, then they’re offensive. End of. I’ve used a couple of phrases not listed here but in a similar article. Even though it’s been years since I said them, I had no idea about the history. I’m thoroughly ashamed of myself, and going forward, I will continue to do better.
