The (Long) Weekend Docket

A decorative image that says "The Mission Within Weekend Docket."

Happy Fri-yay, everyone! We all know what that means: weekend time’s upon us once again, and it’s gonna be a long weekend at that. My weekend plans are to hit up the pool open for Memorial Day weekend, and pick up my season pass there. This way, it cuts down on the burden later, and it’s ready to roll for next weekend when I go to the pool closer to home for me. I may or may not do some yard work too. I’m also thinking I may hit up Wally World at some point to pick up some wood glue and some sandpaper for a little something I may post about later on at some point. I considered hitting up JoAnn for some stuff I saw on the website, but that’s a maybe for now. I also saw some Sonic-themed Crocs on the Journeys Kidz website that I wanted to check out in person, since they come in my size. The GroundUp Sonic sneakers sold out in my size ages ago.

The farmer’s market is back on, but they moved to a different location cuz of some things going on in the neighborhood, and the need for a bigger space. It’s where I picked up some basil plants and some peppers that I’m gonna post about over on the ‘gram sometime. Since there’s no bus service on Monday, which is fair enough, spraygrounds at the park it is for me.

Anyways, ’nuff about me. How bout you, readers? What’re your long weekend plans? Whatever they are or aren’t, I’d love to hear all about it, so drop it all like it’s hawt, and let’s get this party started!

To ring in the long weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.

This looks like a ton of fun to make!

A recent high school graduate, Lena’ Black, is suing the school district for destroying her eagle feather trying to take it away from her during the graduation ceremony. Lena’ is enrolled in the Otoe-Missouria Nation, and also of Osage heritage. Lena’, I’m so sorry this happened to you! That eagle feather is part of your culture, and you deserved to be able to wear it on your mortarboard. BTW, it’s my understanding that touching or owning eagle feathers is a huge no-no (meaning, illegal) for everyone except those enrolled in Native Nations that include eagle feathers in their traditions and customs.

There’s a new skatepark at the Warm Springs Reservation that opened at the end of March. They took parts of the old skatepark it replaced and made a smaller park for the kids in a neighboring community. So here for this!

Job scammers piss me off just by existing.

Remember how the trend to use the word “Latinx” was a thing years back? I’ve used it on here a couple times, but since this term isn’t as inclusive as we once thought it was, I’ve changed it to reflect the preferred term, “Latine.” Makes sense, cuz the former term is basically unpronounceable for those in Spanish-speaking countries. Going forward officially, I’ll be using “Latine” instead. BTW, academia as an institution should NEVER dictate to other ppl how to identify or call their lived experience into question. Especially if the ones doing the dictating aren’t of whatever culture or community they’re talking about.

Ways to reuse old doors. This is gonna come in handy.

How to make an AM radio antenna. I’m gonna have to try this out and see if it helps w/ the reception on my ancient stereo. I can’t get any AM station to come in on it, no matter what I try.

I was today years old when I found out this was a TV commercial too. I only ever hear it on the radio during the baseball games.

A post about startup red flags. The LW’s not just describing red flags, they’re describing fuckin flamethrowers. If anyone sees this and is in a similar place, know that you deserve better, and that I’m sorry you’re in this place.

Sad news in the world of music: Tina Turner died on Wednesday. She was 83 years old. Rest in peace and power, Tina. What’s love but a secondhand emotion?

Last but not least, a signal boost for missing children. There is an active AMBER Alert for 2-year-old Zylah Faulks and an associated companion, 9-year-old Kamil Brown-Sykes of San Antonio, TX. No photo is available for Zylah, but there is one of Kamil. The last confirmed sighting of these girls was May 25th, 2023, and the clothing they were wearing is unknown according to the poster. Zylah and Kamil are believed to be in imminent, immediate danger, so if you see two girls matching their descriptions, make that call. Let’s get Zylah and Kamil home to those who love em, ASAP!
