This week’s gone by fast, and at my other job, the kindergarten class I had the chance to help out at ended the week w/ a hot chocolate party and some Wild Kratts. This means one thing: weekend time’s upon us once again, and it’s a long weekend too! What’re your weekend plans? I have my seasonal job tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. They close early due to the holiday, and we get Sunday off. I was more than happy to work on Christmas, after what happened a year ago.
Other than that, this is gonna be the first time I ever had real time off, instead of time deferred. Up until now, no such animal existed in my life. Since my neck of the woods is getting slammed right and left w/ the crappy weather we’re having, I’m gonna lay low. I’ll be staying in and probably working on some stuff I left by the wayside for too long.
Over to you, readers. What’re your weekend plans? I’d love to hear all about it, whether good, bad, both, or neither. Drop it all like it’s hot, and let’s get this party started!
To ring in the long weekend, I got us some links to talk about, share, what have you.
I’d love to try these arepas sometime.
Also would love to make some buldak, aka fire chicken sometime too.
A guitar case tutorial that looks like it’d be fun to make.
Chicago Teahouse had a booth at the Christkindlmarket I had the chance to go to this year.
Nymph Glass Jewelry was also there.
This post about architect Wanda Dalla Costa, enrolled Saddle Lake Cree Nation is so cool.
Anyone ever tried these DIY rug ideas? How’d it work out?
I’m in the market for a new bed sometime soon, and I’ve had enough of daybeds to last a lifetime. This one’s the one I want, ideally in a full size, but I’m open to either sticking w/ the twin or going w/ the queen size if that’s all that’s there. My room’s pretty small, to say the least. This post about small bedrooms is definitely something to file away for future reference.
I already hate weighted blankets, but regardless of your opinion toward em, this one’s been recalled. If anyone owns this, return it to Target for a refund!
A statue of Henrietta Lacks is going up in 2023. For those of you who may not be in the know, Henrietta was a Black woman who died in 1951 of cervical cancer, and a cell sample from her cervix was used w/o her consent. This wasn’t against protocol at the time, however, it doesn’t make it any less wrong and unethical. Her family’s suing the company for knowingly profiting off of her cells.
I never saw any of the Avatar movies, and now I’m never gonna see any of it. I’ll be seeing these movies instead.
Like this post about a flight attendant in the 1980s.
Last, but not least, a signal boost for a missing child. The last confirmed sighting of 16-year-old Rosbelina Bautista Lopez of Siler City, NC was on October 7th, 2022. If you see a child matching her description, make that call. Let’s see what we can do to get her home safe to those who love her before the end of this year!
On another note, remains of an unidentified child were found in 2020. John Doe 2020 is a Black child estimated to be anywhere from 17 to 21 years old. Photos in the poster are renderings from NCMEC forensic artists, and show what John may have looked like in life. John’s remains were found in a marsh off the Wando River, and only the skull was recovered, according to the poster. If the forensic artist renderings are similar to someone you know who left home during the summer or fall of 2018 to late winter 2019, make that call. John means something to someone, and John is someone’s baby, so let’s get his surviving family some answers and some closure.
